Where do we get our morals from? What is the foundation that allows us to determine what is right and what is wrong?
Is it our feelings? Well, don't drink a beer, or your morals may change.
Maybe it's our education or intelligence. There are many intelligent people in prison with high IQ’s, masterminds in manipulating, swindling, and cheating people for their own gain.
Perhaps it is our upbringing. Are we then subject' to a destiny that we can't change? Yet many good and prominent people have come from poor and even disastrous backgrounds. They have become good people, successful and even leaders in life.
Maybe our morals should be determined by popular vote, after fall, this is America. Well, go to any prison and take a vote. You will see that murder, stealing, and assault is OK, as long as you feel you have a good reason. In fact, you may not even need to go to prison to take that vote.
So how can we determine what is right and what is wrong? What gives us the right to say that we shouldn’t steal or that murder is wrong? After all, if you believe in evolution, aren’t we just animals evolved to a higher species, and according to ‘Science’, the law of nature is “Survival of the Fittest”? Do whatever it takes to survive.
Unless there is a proper foundation for determining our moral compass, everyone will have a tendency to do whatever they think is right in their own mind. That is what we are starting to see more often today. Today, values are trending to be determine by the way we feel, and not by truth or reality. We believe 'Rights' allow us to do whatever we feel instead of allowing us to do what is right.
So what is the solution, what is a foundation that sets the standards? The only solid foundation of truth is the word of God in the Bible. The God of creation, the one who created this world and set it in motion, has given us the Bible to show us what is right and what is wrong. We are given the 10 commandments as a foundation. Later, Jesus sums it up in two commands: "Love the Lord you God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself”.
God created a perfect world; no sin, no disease, no death or destruction. But Adam refused to listen to God and do it his own way ... and we continue to do the same things today. The result: Look around you; death, disease, war, murder, lawlessness, hatred, and more.
God's word is the only foundation of good and evil. As we get further and further away from the truth of God's word, we can only expect things to get worse. The bible warns us of this. 2 Timothy 3:1-4.
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
Sound familiar? Sounds like today.
So what is your foundation? What or your morals based on?
Seek God today and learn of His ways. Read the bible, study it.
Go to a bible study. Join other believes who are trying to learn the truth.
Then obey and practice these values as you live our daily life.
A verse from the Bible, 2 Chronicles 7:14.
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
